Each of the products listed above have different hardware attributes - making them suitable for various situations. But like any hardware, they won't function without the right software. The Turbo SIM, Lite, Adapter and Motion and are all capable of storing SIM Toolkit Applications that can be uploaded via the Turbo Programmer or a compatible mobile phone. But to save users the trouble, they come preloaded with the applications that best enhance those products features. Applications can be added or removed as necessary but note that some applications have been written specifically for certain hardware and won't function correctly if loaded on mismatched devices.

Turbo SIM - Security Edition has been developed to be used by financial institutions, security organizations, businesses and every other area or individual that uses SMS for critical communications with a need for protection against eavesdropping and message spoofing (sender faking).

It has all the security related SIM Toolkit Applications preloaded to turn an ordinary mobile phone into a secure fortress of utilities and information, including:

• Secure SMS - for sending and receiving encrypted SMS
• Killing SMS - for disabling the mobile phone remotely
• Flash SMS - for sending Flash SMS (direct to screen) and
• Secrets - for storing private/sensitive information e.g. passwords, bank accounts, credit card numbers, etc. encrypted on the phone

Turbo Lite is the predecessor of the Turbo SIM and is a little larger, requiring a modified phone case to house it (available in different models), but it still has its place with advantages over the miniature Turbo SIM. Those advantages include a simplified connector with 13 digital Inputs/Outputs (I/O) (4 can be used as ADC inputs) to allow a mobile phone to be used for SMS notification, remote control and measurement.

Turbo Lite comes with preloaded Pager application that simplifies connecting miscellaneous sensors, switches and control devices and is ideal for both new and old (abandoned/ recycled) mobile phones. The one chip solution brings not only the best price but also complete openness for developers.

The Turbo Adapter is similar to the Turbo Lite but it has a removable memory card for storing data and applications. The memory card allows user to store large amounts of data and allows developers to write system level applications, otherwise available only on the latest hi-end mobile phone models.

Turbo Adapter comes with following applications preloaded:

• SMS Archive - for storage and management of text messages on memory card, unlimited folder structure, rules for automatic sorting of incoming SMS
• Secure SMS - for communicating via strongly encrypted text messages
• Masked SMS - for masking content of text messages with other user defined text
• Flash SMS - for sending messages direct to the mobile phone display of recipient
• Secrets - for storing of private/sensitive information in strongly encrypted secured manner
• Reader - for browsing and reading structured texts (i.e. ebooks) stored on memory card
  

Like the Turbo Lite, the Turbo Adapter provides the ability to connect miscellaneous sensors, switches and control devices via the 13 I/O connectors and can be used with both new and old (abandoned/recycled) mobile phones for notification, remote control and measurement.

In the event that a more permanent installation is desired, a professional, Votech Authorised car alarm installer could mount the Turbo Motion in a vehicle and connect it to a power source and other sensors, including:

• Central Locking
• Engine Immobilizer
• Additional/Existing Car Alarms (noise makers)
• Air Conditioning
• Electric Fuel Pumps
• On-Board Diagnostic Systems (OBD-II)
• etc.

Once installed, all sensors can be monitored and controlled remotely via SMS. For example, if keys were locked in a vehicle equipped with a Turbo Motion connected to the central locking then all that would be required would be an SMS instructing the Turbo Motion to "unlock doors".

The data received from the Turbo Motion via SMS when it is probed, or when motion detection alarm is triggered, includes the location of the device and status of connected sensors. The location is obtained from the closest mobile phone tower that is providing the strongest signal and is in the form of the Mobile Network Cell ID and Location Area Code.

Upgrades are currently underway to integrate a suitable GPS receiver into the Turbo Motion design to provide the GIS (map) data for increased location accuracy without increasing the overall size or battery usage by more then a feasible level. Also under investigation is the alternative of connecting an external GPS unit via the Turbo Motion's I/O connectors. Please check back soon to see the status of these projects.

The Turbo Programmer is used to manage applications on the Turbo products and make hardware and software application development easier by facilitating:

• Turbo (SIM, Lite, Adapter and Motion) firmware upgrades
• Memory Card management
• Application debugging
• Connection of hardware development kit
• SIM card operations

The Turbo Programmer contains the following connectors:

• Card Edge connector for Turbo Adapter or hardware development kit connection
• SIM Lock for SIM card operations
• MMC connector for memory card operations
  

Turbo Programmer is connected to the PC via an USB (1.1) cable and contains a FTDI chip. Drivers are available for Win32, Linux and others - please refer to your OS manual to see if it is also supported.
